The Cropseys were sent out as missionaries from Tenth in 2009 as part of a two-year global ophthalmology fellowship at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya. From 2011 to 2021, the Cropseys led a Serge team developing a teaching hospital for Hope Africa University in Burundi. In 2022, John joined the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) where he serves as faculty and the Director of Global Ophthalmology and Institutional Development. John’s passion is empowering the next generation of ophthalmologists in the Great Lakes region of Africa to be the hands and feet of Jesus for the blind through Serge’s Eye Love Africa Project. In 2025, over 6,000 outreach cataract surgeries were performed across Eastern Dem. Rep. of Congo (DRC), Burundi and Rwanda in partnership with Eye Love Africa.
Jessica’s ministry in Kigali is varied and has included learning Kinyarwanda, serving on the PTO and Board of Kigali International Community School (KICS), participating in various Bible studies, organizing academics at RIIO, hosting visitors and serving with John as the Regional Supervisors for the Serge teams in DRC, Uganda and Rwanda. Most importantly, lives are being transformed by literally seeing and tasting that the LORD is good as the gospel is preached in word and deed.
Craig teaches New Testament at Christ Bible Seminary in Japan, while Yumiko ministers through music at the seminary and their local church.
Japan is home to one of the largest unreached people groups in the world, Craig and Yumiko strive to equip Japanese to reach Japan with the gospel.
Craig is the interim president of Christ Bible Seminary, a graduate-level school of theology that teaches Reformed theology but is open to students from an array of denominational backgrounds. CBS strives to ground a new generation of pastors and Christian leaders in the gospel and equip them to extend the gospel to the lost of Japan and to expand the Church in this least-reached nation. In addition to more administrative roles, Craig teaches New Testament and occasionally other subjects and does his best to organize the library. Yumiko’s ministry is primarily through music and hospitality at church.
Pray for Craig and Yumiko’s health as they continue their work despite numerous physical setbacks. Pray that they would find time to rest. Pray they would have the resources they need to continue to spread the gospel in Japan.
C&K have been serving in Asia for over a decade. They continue to serve faithfully despite drastic changes to their vision. They strive to establish healthy and encouraging discipleship relationships with the people around them.
They currently work in the home office of their sending agency.
Pray for courage, comfort, and wisdom as they continue in the ministry to which they have been called, despite many friends being called home. Pray that their children would find the support and friendships they need.
