Proverbs 28:2

When a land transgresses, it has many rulers,
but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue.

When a nation or people transgress they usually require a heavier hand, whether that takes the form of more police or more government workers overseeing many regulations. They require many leaders or officials showing them what to do and enforcing the rules and laws. Their rule is with might and an iron fist.

What every nation needs is a man of understanding and knowledge, a person of integrity that understands people and their inclinations. This is a person that rules fairly and justly. His pattern of rule is one of patience which, in turn, promotes stability in the land. He rules with more than force or strict regulations—he rules with understanding and discernment.

Are you willing to go through the arduous task of patiently observing and then acting with knowledge? Are you willing to weather this course in your position of leadership, whatever the scope of that entails?

Let us remember and be thankful that we have a compassionate ruler of our souls, who faithfully reigns on his throne. Even though we are guilty of many transgressions, he remains our ruler and friend, keeping stability in our hearts and throughout his kingdom until that great day he returns in glory.
