One misconception that many people have when they begin attending Tenth is that we are a well-oiled machine that has no need of their help. While it is true that we have many people involved in various ministries of Tenth, there is always a need for volunteers, especially on Sundays. For example, did you know that it takes 35 people to offer nursery each week? We need you and your unique set of gifts to ensure that Sundays run smoothly and that people are welcomed and able to worship without distraction.
If you’ve never volunteered before, here are some opportunities that are important, yet do not require a lot of time or a long-term commitment:
Twenty minutes before each service and a few minutes into the service, friendly faces are posted at the Narthex doors to greet people as they enter. Contact Anne Tartikoff.
Volunteers host a table on the east side of the Narthex each Sunday to welcome visitors, direct them to childcare, and provide information about the various ministries of Tenth. Contact Anne Tartikoff.
These teams work together to provide the refreshments between the morning worship services. They also provide support at the congregational dinners and receptions. Contact Steve and Ruth Neild.
Tenth Nursery has a particular need for volunteers during the 11:00 service. Please consider caring for our covenant children while their parents are at worship. All nursery volunteers are interviewed and screened to ensure the safety of our children. Contact Anne Lehman.
Weekly volunteers staff the front desk during staff meetings on Tuesday afternoons (usually 3:30–4:30 PM) or stuff bulletins on Fridays. Other occasional office volunteers fill in at the front desk when the receptionist is taking vacation or sick days. Contact Dot Boersma.
After the morning services today and next Sunday, there will be a table in Reception Hall for those who have questions about these opportunities and to sign-up to volunteer.
There are many other ministries at Tenth that are in need of short- and long-term volunteers. In the coming months you will see listings in the bulletin, postings on the website, and appeals during Living Church for your time and talents. Start praying now that God would direct you to the area in which you can best serve.
