Make Philadelphia a Place of Refuge

by January 16, 2017

Since the mid '90s, the Democratic Republic of Congo has been in the midst of a violent and prolonged conflict that has spilled well beyond the nation's own boundaries. Thousands of people in the DRC and elsewhere are displaced by violence every year, forced to leave their homes by circumstances beyond their control and to become refugees.

In September 2016, Tenth partnered with Bethany Christian Services to make Philadelphia a place of refuge for one Congolese family.  Tenth members have provided much and varied support for the Asukulus.  Though Bethany has completed their work with the family, Tenth volunteers and members continue to surround the family with friendship, guidance, donations, and security as they get their feet solidly on the ground.

The Bible tells us that God "defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing" and that we, too, are to "love those who are foreigners, for you were foreigners in Egypt" (Deuteronomy 10: 18-19).

Help us to "love them as yourself" (Leviticus 19:34) by praying for Tenth's Refugee Ministry, its volunteers, and the family we are supporting. If you feel called to help, we could use volunteers in a variety of areas.

Please reach out to Mim Tilton if you would be interested in volunteering or donating in any way.
