A Tribute to The City School & Kate Apple

by David Apple June 17, 2014

The City School is an urban Christian high school, "reaching the city for Christ one student at a time." It was founded by James and Linda Boice as City Center Academy in 1982. My wife, Kate Apple, who taught English from 2004–2014, received this note from a former student. For more info on this K–12 school, go to www.cityschool.org.

Mrs. Apple,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the many years you have served my fellow students and me. When I reflect on those years of your teaching the class to decode the deeper narrative of the Odyssey or teaching constructively a coherent essay, I am proud to call you my teacher. Your timeless efforts have made all the difference in my life. Despite all the odds, I have made it halfway through my college career and am pursuing my dream to become an officer with the U.S. Army. Most importantly, I was introduced to the church by way of The City School. There is no greater gift one can receive than salvation; thus I am so thankful for your service to God. You have been a great example. Enjoy your earned retirement.
