Theology Night: Identity, Idolatry & Redemption

October 13, 2023 6:30pm 9:00pm

Join us as Matthew P. W. Roberts, author of Pride: Identity and the Worship of Self and Pastor of Trinity Church, York, UK, will be joining us for a set of talks and dialogue over the topic of identity, where it should be found, and how to respond to the Pride movement as Christians.

The LGBTQ+ ideology of ‘identity’ has become seemingly all-powerful in the last few years. As a very new and recent way of thinking, it has left many Christians puzzled—and troubled—about how to respond. But we need not be: the Bible, and the Christian gospel, equips us fully to understand where this idea of ‘identity’ comes from. Christ came to redeem us—so that we would know who we really are.

Light refreshments will be served halfway through.

Content Advisory from the Speaker: Obviously there is much about the subject which is deeply unpleasant and which we would all rather keep from our children. However, this is so prevalent in the world around us that I don’t believe that is even possible, and I think it is important that we teach our children from a young age how to respond. I won’t be discussing anything graphically sexual, but I will be addressing the issue of our corrupt sexual desires, without going into any detail about how those might be acted upon. So I would say that it would be fine for parents to bring children as long as they themselves are willing to answer their children’s questions which they might ask afterwards.
