So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
What Is Diaconate Benevolence?
The main emphasis of Tenth’s diaconal ministry is diaconate benevolence, meeting the emergency or ongoing financial needs of God’s people through charitable giving. We help those in need as a result of the outpouring of God’s grace and mercy that we have received in Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:34–40).
Why Does Tenth Provide Diaconate Benevolence?
The work of the diaconate is to show God’s mercy to his people in need (Galatians 6:10). We take very seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of the resources God has provided.
Where Does Diaconate Benevolence Funding Come From?
All diaconate benevolence money is freely given by the people of God at Tenth when the Deacon’s Fund offering is collected. Yellow envelopes are used to designate money for the Deacon’s Fund and are collected after our monthly communion services during the last hymn.
Money designated to the Deacon’s Fund is not part of the church’s overall budget and is administered by the diaconate. Each request for assistance is evaluated by the Board of Deacons with the input of an elder, following guidelines approved by the diaconate.
How Do I Get Financial Help?
On Sundays: Anyone in need of diaconate benevolence from Tenth should meet with a minister, elder, deacon, or deaconess. These church leaders are available after all church services in the Narthex (main entrance) and wear name tags for easy identification.
During the week: Anyone needing diaconate benevolence assistance during the week may contact the minister on call through the church’s office.
What Happens After I’ve requested Diaconate Benevolence?
To help us better understand your situation, a member of the diaconate will contact you to talk about your financial needs. This is so we can successfully meet the needs of our people while carefully stewarding the money entrusted to us. The deacon or deaconess will work with you to determine the best way that we can help and to ensure that you receive emotional and spiritual support alongside any financial assistance we provide.
