The Session approved the following Projects of the Month:

  • July – Harvest USA
  • August – Philadelphia Access Center
  • September – Santiago Theological Seminary.

The Building Committee is considering a swinging gate for the courtyard. They do not believe this kind of gate will impact the number of parking spaces (four), which has been a source of concern for the church staff. The balance of the cost of the gate was within the budget.

The Session approved the replacement of the heating system for the main sanctuary; Session also approved the $300,000 of additional funds needed to purchase the project in 2025. The Building Committee agreed that converting to a hot water system is the most viable and cost-effective solution. Several of the advantages of a hot water system include: easier and cheaper to maintain, lasts longer than forced air, more efficient than steam, and the “knocking” sound made by the steam system will be eliminated.

The Security Committee is reviewing the idea of armed security for Sundays. The committee is also submitting an Evacuation Response Policy to Session for approval.

The Personnel Committee reported that it is reviewing job descriptions for a business manager and an assistant music director. There was discussion about the employee review process where there is more work to be done for reviews to go smoothly.

The Session approved the sale of the 315 Building subject to the approval of the congregation. The Trustees had earlier prepared and distributed a study and analysis for Session as to the pros and cons for such a recommendation. Proceeds from the sale could potentially be used for future capital projects on our campus or to provide a below-market loan to a new senior minister. Stay tuned for more information on next steps.

Pray for Dr. Gibson this summer, as he vacations with his family and later does research for a number of writing projects. He plans to return in early September to continue as our stated supply (with our Presbytery’s endorsement).

Pray for our elders and their “little flocks.” We trust each of you members have been contacted by an elder who is praying for and shepherding you.
Pray for our pastoral staff who are carrying heavier loads than usual with each contributing to the preaching schedule throughout the summer months.

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith . . . .” (Hebrews 10:22, NIV).
Sincerely for the Session,
George K. McFarland
Clerk of Session
