April 2024

April 24, 2024

This is a regular monthly report to the congregation on significant highlights from the Session meetings. I will attempt to glean those significant aspects that I feel may be of interest to the congregation and thus give you a “window” into the thoughts and actions of the elders.

The Session invited members Thom and Anne Lehman to its meeting this month. They shared with the elders their Christian testimony and noted their call to serve with Engineers Ministries International. Upon the recommendation of the Global Outreach Commission, the Session approved the Lehmans as Tenth Global Partners. It is such a blessing to see God calling members of Tenth to serve in his kingdom.

The Session also approved the following Projects of the Month for the third quarter of this year: July – Harvest USA; August – Philadelphia Access Center; and September – Santiago Theological Seminary.

The Building Committee reported that the current estimated construction price for the courtyard is approximately $515,000, which includes $50,000 of contingency. Ground breaking is expected the first Monday in June 2024. They also reported that due to the high cost of converting the heating system, the Building Committee decided to keep the steam system and prolong its life with new radiators, system repairs and improved maintenance.

The Pulpit Supply Committee reported that in the 9 and 11am worship service preachers have been scheduled through mid August; the 6:30pm worship services have been scheduled through August with our teaching elders carrying the preaching responsibilities. The Session is reviewing the role of an interim minister and how that may work at Tenth in the time without a senior minister. Please pray for this whole process.

Please continue to pray for our Nominating Committee, chaired by Ruling Elder Russ Pfeifer, as they seek out candidates for officers in the church.

The Session encourages all to participate in the two times of fasting and prayer on May 8 and June 12. On these dates, time to gather for prayer will be held in Fellowship Hall from 7pm to 9pm. If you cannot make these times, please set aside time to pray for the church. Don’t forget, too, the coming parish meetings if you have not attend one yet. Mark your calendars for both of these important times.

A Session committee continues to review the GRACE report. The committee’s goal is to complete the review by the end of April. Please pray for this committee in its work.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

Sincerely for the Session,
George K. McFarland
Clerk of Session
