Helpful Online Tools for Scripture Memorization

by Carroll Wynne February 28, 2014

Scripture memorization: what a great way to learn God’s Word and have it securely cemented into one’s mind, useful for the Holy Spirit’s leading and our joy in growing closer to Christ.

One method we used in our home to aid with scripture memorization was the first-letter-of-the-word charts. You know what I'm talking about. If you were memorizing John 3:16, for example, the beginning of your chart would look like this:

F

G

S

L

T

W

T

H

G

H

O

S

(For God So Loved The World That He Gave His Only Son…)

Now ScriptureTyper, a free online service, has conveniently moved this type of memorization work online. Scripture Typer uses a three step memory process. Work at your own pace going through each step, repeating if needed until you feel comfortable with the verse.

  • Type It
  • Memorize It
  • Master It

Once you've mastered a verse, a red check mark will appear beside it.  A red check mark will also appear beside a collection when all of the verses it contains are memorized. Scripture Typer also offers a downloadable mobile app for $6.

If you're looking for innovative tools to help you memorize scripture, definitely check it out. Shout-out to our young people in Children with Special Needs ministry for passing this along to us!
