The Business Director is responsible for the financial leadership and stewardship of the church, ensuring strong financial systems, accurate reporting, financial integrity, operational excellence, and sound resource management in support of Tenth’s mission and long-term sustainability. This role has primary responsibility for all financial operations, reporting, and stewardship of church resources.
The Business Director reports to the Executive Minister.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Financial Planning and Oversight
- Work closely with the Finance Committee to assess the financial condition of the church and develop policies and procedures that ensure optimal stewardship of resources
- Oversee and manage the annual budgeting and financial planning process
- Prepare and present comprehensive quarterly financial reports for the (Senior) Minister, Executive Minister, Session, and Trustees
Financial Operations and Stewardship
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, expense management, payroll, and donation processing
- Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded, properly coded, and compliant with established policies
- Provide regular financial reporting to pastoral staff and ministry leaders to support budget management and decision-making
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of annual donor statements and ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Serve as a signer on church accounts and ensure appropriate financial controls are followed
Systems and Controls
- Maintain and oversee financial policies, ensuring they are current, clearly documented, and consistently applied
- Ensure appropriate financial controls, audit readiness, and compliance with applicable regulations
- Oversee the annual audit process and manage relationships with external auditors
- Evaluate and improve financial systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Emburse, Bill.com) to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls across all financial processes
- Serve as primary liaison with external accounting partners to ensure timely and accurate financial close processes
General Business Administration
- Oversee compliance with tax, regulatory, and legal requirements, including property and wage tax obligations
- Manage key vendor and service provider relationships, including accounting, insurance, legal services, and utilities
- Review and support approval of vendor contracts and maintain appropriate documentation
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of all financial and administrative obligations
- Over time, build and oversee financial and administrative support capacity as needed
Treasury and cash management
- Oversee cash flow and ensure sufficient operating liquidity
- Manage transfers between accounts as needed
- Recommend and support execution of short-term investment strategies in coordination with the Executive Minister and Finance Committee
Strategic Support
- Provide financial insights to the (Senior) Minister, Executive Minister and Session to support decision-making
- Support and contribute to long-term financial planning and sustainability efforts

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field (CPA preferred)
Experience:
5–10+ years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or business operations
Skills:
- Strong financial, analytical, and organizational skills
- Design, oversight, and implementation of financial systems and controls
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
- Strong judgment, prioritization, and problem-solving
- Clear communication with non-financial audiences
