I’ve always known prayer was a “good thing.” And if I needed to I could just go pray to God about anything. But it wasn’t until a couple of summers ago that I realized just how important prayer is. I want to take this time to tell you about it.

A couple summers ago when I was eleven, I went on my first mission’s trip to Chester, PA. Every day we would hold a program in the park for the kids in Chester. There we would play games, do skits, and teach a Bible lesson. Towards the middle of the week the weather started to look not so good for us, because there was supposed to be rain and thunderstorms. On Wednesday night we were told we were going to have to cancel our program because of the storms. Me and everyone else were pretty upset about this and for a few minutes we all kind of sat around just upset. Then a few of the older girls on the team suggested that we all go pray. At first I felt really guilty for not automatically thinking of prayer. Because of course we should pray, God controls everything and only he can control the weather. So we all got up and got in a circle and prayed. Later on that night the storms stopped and the weather was great the next day. Then we got to our evening program and we started to feel little rain drops on our arms and everyone just sort of looked around at each other with worried faces. Just then a couple girls went in a corner of the park and began to pray. And as if it was magic the rain stopped, but it wasn’t magic it was obviously God.

So I just want to encourage you all to pray, no matter where you are or what’s going on. You can always go to God and even when he doesn’t respond quick enough or in the way you wanted that doesn’t mean he forgot or doesn’t care.
