If your life could be defined in answer to one question, what would that question be? For some it might read something like this: “How can I live as happy and as pain-free a life as possible?” For others it might be: “how can I influence this world for good?” For still others it could be: “what do I want to be remembered for after I die?” For those of us brought up in the Reformed faith we might say: […]
The Session of Tenth Presbyterian Church recently adopted the report of the Ad Interim Committee on Human Sexuality to the Forty-Eighth General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America (2019-2020) as an official and faithful summation of what we believe and confess the Bible teaches regarding human sexuality. Furthermore, we embrace the twelve statements of this ecclesiastical report as an executive summary of our beliefs. We encourage all congregants to take the time to read these twelve statements and prayerfully […]
The Global Outreach Commission is happy to announce that our Global Outreach Conference is just around the corner. It will kick off with our Flag Parade at the morning services on Sunday, October 29 and will run through Sunday, November 5. This will be Tenth’s 85th missions conference, and we are excited to hear about what God is doing around the world through our global partners and others. Our main speaker will be Dr. Lloyd Kim, Coordinator of Mission to […]
As Reformed Confessional Presbyterians, we believe that the Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is our rule of faith and practice. Subordinately, we receive and adopt the confessional standards summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF), the Westminster Larger Catechism (WLC), and the Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC), as containing the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures. In obedience to the scriptural mandate, as uttered from the lips of […]
Prior installments of this series on the next generation of leaders focused on the qualifications of officers of the church, as well as on the importance of prayer in the process of considering and selecting our next officers at Tenth. As the Nominating Committee approaches the latter stages of this year’s work, beginning to interview potential officers and awaiting decisions, we acknowledge common questions and themes that come up in our conversations: the busyness of daily life, the difficulty of […]
A mango fell, bounced of the roof of the Sunday School classroom, and rolled across my toes as I stood in the courtyard of Los Olivos Church in Barranquilla, Colombia waiting for the Bible conference to begin. The moment the mango fell, Alfonzo picked it up and ran off to grab a knife to cut some for everyone. As we stood together eating mangos in the church courtyard, I was struck by the hospitality of the church and the familial […]
In the first part of this series on the next generation of leaders, elder Russell Pfeifer asked the congregation to join the Nominating Committee and current leadership in fervent prayer and reminded us that, “primarily, officer selection is a work of the Holy Spirit and that it is to be founded on earnest prayer.” As we pray for God to raise up new leaders, we are prompted to remember and give thanks for the men and women whom God has […]
This year, in order to give thanks for God’s providence and the end of slavery in the United States, Tenth Church will sponsor a Jubilee Day cookout at 4pm on Saturday June 17, in what has been used as a parking lot and will soon become a courtyard for fellowship. If it is raining, we will move the event to Fellowship Hall. Please RSVP so we can have an idea for the food order. Let us come and join together […]
You may wonder why Tenth has an afternoon service every Sunday. This is how it came about, and what it is all about. If you have been at Tenth for a while, you may know about Tenth International Fellowship, a worship service that was designed to include our international friends and be sensitive to cross cultural communication and unfamiliarity with Christian worship. More recently, we changed the name to the International Outreach (IO) service. Prior to the start of the […]
