Proverbs 22:9

Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed,
for he shares his bread with the poor.

The above proverb speaks of a heart that is motivated to benevolence. It is the heart of love that triggers the eye to see a need…and to meet that need. It is the heart of love that moves us to perform acts of compassion. For years, one of my favorite sayings—paraphrasing Proverbs 2:27—has been, “When you have opportunity to do good, do it!” In 1984 a group of members saw a homeless person sleeping on Tenth’s steps. They saw an opportunity and were moved to compassion. Thirty years later, Tenth‘s ACTS Ministries is still sharing its bread with the poor, and, especially, sharing with them the bread of life. Lives are forever being changed. Souls are being saved. Remember this today:

We all have opportunity to share, and include others in our bounty.

We can all see Jesus in the one who is poor. The Scriptures say that when we care for others, we care for Jesus (Matthew 25:31-46).

We are all blessed when we freely give (as we have freely received from God).
