Students accepted into the program must have an instrument by the second class, if possible. You may rent or buy from any source. Tenth Church does not rent, sell, or provide violins.
The average cost to rent a good quality violin is about $190 for a year. The cost to buy a good quality student violin is around $170. Many cheaper violins can be found through the internet but often are not playable.
With your child’s arm fully extended, measure from your child’s neck to the middle of his or her palm. If you have questions about violin sizes as well as those for other stringed instruments, please email the director, Judy Harvey
If this measurement is:
- 20 inches or less — obtain a ½ size violin
- 20 to 23 inches — obtain a ¾ size violin
- 23 inches or more — obtain a full size or 4/4 violin
