A Beating Rain That Leaves no Food

Series: Proverbs

Proverbs 28:3

A poor man who oppresses the poor
is a beating rain that leaves no food.

There are times when a poor man becomes a leader. People raise such a person, poor like themselves, to power. But he does not use his power fairly. He is cruel. He does not remember that he is like the other poor people. He thinks that he is better than them. He cheats and oppresses them. He does not provide nor lead in a godly way.

Unlike a gentle rain which waters the earth and bears good fruit, such ill-governing is like a tornado—a sweeping storm that carries flocks, crops, and houses away with it. This is the worst oppressor of all, plundering the people instead of bringing hope and life.

We can choose to be a blessing or a curse to others. As God comforts us in all our affliction, let us comfort others who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God (2 Corinthians 1:4).
